This document lists the casualties of the 33rd Missouri Infantry Volunteers at the Battle of Helena, Arkansas, fought on July 4, 1863. The list was prepared on July 5, 1863, by Assistant Adjutant Lieutenant C. L. Drapee and contains the names of 55 killed, wounded and missing. The list starts with Private S. I. Barnett, Company A, right arm amputated, and ends with Private George W. Cook, Company K, killed. Also on the list is Lieutenant James W. Brooks of Company G, killed; Lieutenant Brooks’s sword appears in the virtual museum.
During the battle the 33rd Missouri Infantry successfully defended Fort Curtis and “handled Batteries A, B, C, and D with great precision and success,” according to the official report filed by Major removed hyphen General B. M. Prentiss, commanding Headquarters, District of Eastern Arkansas.
