This brass telescope with dark leather covering was carried by Lieutenant Colonel William H. Stark.
William Henry Stark, native of New Hampshire, was born in 1836. Stark was mustered into service as captain of Company I, 24th Missouri Infantry in October 1861, and served briefly with the regiment before being transferred to the staff of General Samuel Curtis, where he would remain for the duration of his service. Stark was promoted to major in January 1863 and to lieutenant colonel that April 1863. He was mustered out of service in January 1865.
Stark died in St. Louis in March 1884.
