Felix Sprochule was born in Southeim, Wurtemberg, Germany and then immigrated to the United States. In November 1852 he enlisted in the 4th U.S. Artillery in New York, but deserted the following July.
At some unknown date he moved to St. Louis, where he was commissioned a captain in the 5th Missouri Volunteer Infantry Regiment on September 14, 1861. He resigned on October 15, 1862 due to rheumatism in the leg.
Sprochule later re-entered the Union army as a first lieutenant with the 67th Regiment U. S. Colored Troops, organized at Benton Barracks, Missouri, from January 19-February 13, 1864. On March 23, 1865, Sprochule was transferred to the 65th Regiment U. S. Colored Troops. The unit was mustered out of service on January 8, 1867.
Although Sprochule’s later life is unknown, he was dead by 1890, when his widow applied for a pension in Louisiana.
