Thomas B. Reed mustered into Company G, 9th Missouri State Militia Cavalry as a captain and company commander. The 9th Missouri State Militia Cavalry was primarily involved in offensive actions against Confederate guerillas throughout Missouri.
Reed was mustered out of service on April 22, 1865.
