This photograph of Helena, Arkansas shows "Southern burying ground along ridge & back in woods beyond hospital," and "General Hospital at Helena Ark. 1863-64--a big residence on slope of hill next to town," according to Captain Thomas Abel, 56th U.S. Colored Infantry, who was assigned to garrison duties in the city after the battle.
