Corporal Frederick Kullman, a German-American soldier in the 13th Missouri Cavalry, kept a diary recording the conclusion of the Civil War from the perspective of a German-American soldier in the Union army. He described camp life and leisure activities and gave his thoughts on the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and other national events. The diary ends in late April 1865 with the surrender of Joseph Johnston.
